We all know what a carpenter is. No, it is not the band who sang the song ‘Close to you’. A carpenter is a person who makes and repairs wooden objects and structures. Carpentry, on the other hand, is a skilled trade in which the primary work performed is the cutting, shaping, and installation of building materials during construction of buildings, timber bridges, concrete formwork, etc. Shipbuilding also involves carpentry skills. Ship’s carpentry focuses on shipbuilding, maintenance, and repair. The carpenters who are involved in ship carpentry work on both steel and wooden ships and is responsible for all carpentry work and various woodwork and general repairs aboard the ship.
